Dr. Darren Sam
Principal Dentist
D.M.D., BSc. Pharm., BSc.
Born and raised in Vancouver, Dr. Darren Sam attended the University of British Columbia where he earned his undergraduate degree in Science as well as a degree in Pharmacy. After working briefly as a licensed Pharmacist, Dr. Sam returned to school to pursue his true passion and dream of becoming a dentist. Dr. Sam graduated from The Faculty of Dentistry at the University of British Columbia in 1999.
In 2004 Dr. Sam founded Dr. D.L. Sam Inc, a dental practice conveniently located in the Burnaby Metrotown area. Over the years, Dr. Sam has established a wonderful team of dental professionals. He takes pride in working closely with his team to provide his family of patients with a warm, welcoming and safe environment and the highest level of professional service and quality care.
As a life long learner Dr. Sam continues to take courses and seminars to advance his skills in dentistry and practice management. He has a particular interest in implant therapy, orthodontics and implementing efficient office systems.
Outside of work, Dr. Sam likes to keep fit by running and enjoys spending quality time with his wife and three daughters.
Mariela
Registered Dental Hygienist
Mariela started her dental career 16 years ago, shortly after graduating from VCC Certified Dental Assisting program. As a CDA she worked in Specialty Endodontic and Pediatric Dental practices, and brings valuable experience working with children of all ages.
Mariela first joined Dr. D. L. Sam Inc. in 2009 shortly after graduation from Vancouver Community College Dental Hygiene Diploma Program. She enjoys providing individualized gentle and thorough dental hygiene care and loves educating her clients in the achievement and maintenance of optimum oral hygiene. She speaks fluent Spanish.
Outside of work, she loves spending quality time with her family and is always busy driving her three children to their activities.
Ellen graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Dental Science in 2019 to begin her journey as a Registered Dental Hygienist.
She aims to create a comfortable environment to make sure the patients are able to leave with a great dental hygiene experience, while striving to provide comprehensive care. She is looking forward to sharing her oral health knowledge and helping the patients achieve their dental needs.
Outside of work, she enjoys watching movies/TV shows, and discovering new food places to recommend. She would love to travel to various parts of the world in the future.

Desirey
Certified Dental Assistant
Desirey graduated from Polytechnic University of the Philippines in 2009 with a Degree in Hospitality Management. She moved to Canada in 2013 and worked in the Hospitality Industry. In 2018, she decided to change her career and took the Certified Dental Assistant Program at CDI College Burnaby.
What she loves about this job is meeting new people and making sure that they get the patient care that they deserve.
Outside work, she likes to travel. She likes going to places and learning about their culture and their cuisine. Her hobbies are photography and videography. She likes editing videos of places she visited. She also loves to read inspirational books.
Viviene
Front Desk Administrator
Viviene graduated from The College of Dentistry at the Centro Escolar University in the Philippines. She moved to Canada in September of 2022 to be with her husband and started working with Dr. Sam in October of the same year.
She loves a job where she could still be in the dental field and expand her knowledge. Seeing people gain confidence after a dental treatment makes her job worthwhile. She aims to be the person patients want to rely on.
Outside of work, she loves to spend time with her husband playing computer games, go for hikes in the summer and eat out
